The Etowah Community Food Bank is proud to be a United Way Agency. This partnership allows the Food Bank to help thousands of Etowah County residents with food distribution and prepared meals at partner agencies.
The Etowah Community Food Bank was established in 1983. The Mission of the Food Bank remains the same, “To Feed the Hungry” in Etowah County.
The Food Bank employees a part-time Executive Director and is governed by a rotating Board of Directors with Elected Officers.
The Food Bank distributes food items through three partner Agencies: The Catholic Center of Concern, the Etowah Baptist Mission Center and the Salvation Army. These Agencies provide food bags to those in need according to their individual guidelines. The Salvation Army prepares meals daily for their residents and provides bags of food to clients.
The Food Bank purchases food for Agencies through the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama in Birmingham and through local grocers. The Food Bank also was able to purchase a truck with Community Development at the City of Gadsden and HUD funding. It is available to agencies and churches in our County to pick up food from Birmingham and deliver it directly to their distribution sites.
Food is purchased with funds from the United Way of Etowah County, The City of Gadsden, Community donations, Churches, Civic Organizations and the Federal Emergency Food and Shelter Program through FEMA. Food Drives are held several times during the year. They include the Letter Carrier Local #1047 Postal Food Drive in May, The School Competition Food Drive in October and November and the WMGJ Community Food Drive in December.
The Etowah Community Food Bank is grateful to all donors and to the partner Agencies. We are privileged to be a part of the solution to food insufficiency in our community.
